NMLS

What is the NMLS?

The NMLS, which stands for the Nationwide Multistate Licensing System, is a database that maintains the licenses for mortgage companies and mortgage loan originators (MLOs). After the Secure and Fair Enforcement for Mortgage Licensing Act of 2008 (“SAFE Act”) was passed, Congress required mortgage originators to be licensed with a uniform education and criteria to qualify.

Consumers can use the NMLS Consumer Access website to verify any financial services provider.
