OK, now that the Phils have righted their ship by managing a split against the Cubs and then following up a poor loss to the Nats with a game that they actually gave Hamels some run support, the upcoming series at Shea Stadium is looming, and getting a lot of headlines.
It seems everyone and their mother wants Cole Hamels to start on Sunday against Johan Santana. Hamels has managed to miss the Mets a good deal this year, sometimes intentionally being rested extra by the club to avoid injuries. He had one start against NY this year, giving up 4 earned runs (5 runs total) in 7 innings and taking the loss. So he certainly didn't shut them down. Of course, that game was way back on April 18th, and he was indeed pitching against Santana that night.
The Phillies have actually faced the Mets ace 4 times this year. He's only managed one win against the good guys, but he's pitched 29 innings to an ERA of 3.10 against the Phils this year. We all know that Santana can be dominant,...
