Just a few thoughts

I would just like to state for the record here, that although it appears otherwise, the Phillies are not the only sports team we follow.  However, because it is preseason for the Eagles, who the hell cares? Ha ha, I'm just kidding...sorta.  One of the things that annoys me about the NFL is how much round the clock year round coverage there is.  Why do I care how the 3rd string weak side linebacker from the Rams spent 2 weeks of his offseason?  Preseason games aren't much different.  They have absolutely no bearing whatsoever on anything.  In fact, if I recall correctly, the Raiders may have won nearly as many preseason games last year as they did in the regular season.  So all you football fans that put a ton of stock in the preseason, give it a rest and wait for the regular season to start.  Nothing annoys me more than when I am sitting at a Phils game, or a Flyers game, and I hear the Eagles chant.  If the Birds are in the playoffs, and the game is happening at the exact time that you are in attendance for another sport, maybe the Flyers, then yes you can do an occasional Eagles chant.  If if is the middle of June and you do an Eagles chant at a Phillies game, you are either mentally handicapped and don't realize what sport you are attending, or you deserve to have your vocal chords removed.  Either way, shut the hell up.  That being said, there are a couple of good things that have come out of this camp:

The word is that Jerome McDougal had a good camp, and he played pretty well in the game against the Steelers.  If he keeps it up tonight maybe it will be a step towards him finally realizing his potential.

McNabb didn't throw any balls at receivers' feet during the Steelers game.  I think McNabb still has a number of quality years left in him, and I think this is the year he starts to put it all together and return to elite status.  A.J. Feeley, on the other hand, did throw a ball 5 feet over the head of an open receiver in the end zone during the 2 minute drill at the end of the game, but hopefully we won't be seeing him at all this year anyway.

DeSean Jackson looked good.  More importantly he didn't drop any balls.  Everyone always says that we need a superstar receiver.  That is not what we need.  We need someone to catch the ball.  I am not talking about the acrobatic one handed sideline grab.  I am talking about knowing the receiver is going to catch it if its thrown to him.  Eagles receivers constantly drop easy passes and it really hurts the team.  If Jackson has sure hands I don't care how small he is, I want him in the game.  I say he starts challenging for a starting spot as early as the opening of the regular season.

Only 3 more stupid games to go before the season actually starts and you can start caring what happens, since afterall, the only thing that comes out of the preseason is injuries.
